If your agency is just thinking about initiating a social media marketing program or updating your current strategy, here is some important information to keep in mind. Social media marketing has gone from a complementary way to build authority to a primary path to the first page of the Search Engine Result Page. A whopping 90% of marketers have reported that including social media in their marketing plans has increased their business’s exposure. In 2017, not making the most of your social media audience will eliminate a massive potential market right from the beginning. It’s not just for younger generations anymore: social media usage by adults has been steadily on the rise, with over 69% of adults using at least one social media site, and 56% of online adults using more than one social media platform.
According to Jason DeMers at SEOMoz, there are five items that have a direct impact on organic search results:
- Number of people that like your brand on Facebook
- Number of Facebook shares
- Number of Twitter followers
- Number of tweets mentioning your brand name or including a link to your website
- Number of people that “have you in their circles” (Google+).
These are the biggest brands for businesses: over 65 million businesses have an active Facebook account, and 76% of Facebook members visited the site on a daily basis during 2016 (with over 1.6 daily visitors). 88% of businesses with over 100 employees make use of Twitter for marketing purposes, and 74% of Twitter users have admitted to using Twitter to get product updates from small businesses.
The importance of social media related to organic search has come a long way over the last few years, and to this day continues to develop as Google continues to update its algorithm. Social media contributes to brand identification and conversion rates, because search engine algorithms use social media shares as a means of measuring the quality of the content and how relevant it is to the search query. The more people interact with your content on social media, the search engine is more likely to consider it “quality content.”
However, don’t excuse your content completely. The biggest barrier to blogging and social media is the time and effort involved in creating and distributing quality, relevant content. How are you suppose to sell insurance, write 10-20 blogs per month, and post to four or five social media sites? Take a look across this site to gain a better understanding of how and why, and then let me know if you want someone to do it for you. We have had a great deal of success in creating a buzz across social media for our clients, and we could do the same for you.
